Coraci Ruiz
Coraci Ruiz was born in São Paulo in 1978. She has been working as a documentary filmmaker since 2003, when she founded Laboratório Cisco - a documentary production company with themes related to grassroots culture, the environment, human rights and politics, based in Campinas/SP.
She graduated in Dance at Unicamp (2002), during which time she studied the relationship between dance and photography and video. She holds a master's degree in Audiovisual and Media Culture from Unicamp (2009), with the research " Documentary and Video-Letters: Approximations", funded by Fapesp, and a PhD in Multimedia (2020), also at Unicamp, with the research "Autobiographical Documentary of Women: Technologies, Gestures and Aesthetics of Resistance", funded by CAPES. She also attended the workshop "Documentary Filmmaking" at EICTV, Cuba (2005).
As a filmmaker, she has directed several short and feature films, as well as educational videos. Her main works are the feature films "Threshold" (77', 2020), which had its International Premiere at the competitive session of the Hot Docs festival, was screened at more than 70 festivals in several countries and received twenty-two awards in Brazil, Peru, Argentina, Portugal, Italy, Spain and USA; "Blooming on the Asphalt" (79', 2022), directed in partnership with Julio Matos, which premiered at the 25th Tiradentes Film Festival and has been shown at festivals in several countries.
