Elza Kephart
Elza Kephart writes and directs horror films. Her third feature, SLAXX, has Vincenzo Natali saying: “SLAXX does for jeans what Jaws did for the water. It shows the promise of an important new voice in horror.” SLAXX has been called “mayhem with a message” by the New York Times, named “One of the Best Horror Comedies of the 21st Century” by Nerdist.com and has a 96% Fresh Rating on Rotten Tomatoes. SLAXX had its World Premiere at the Fantasia International Film Festival, played the Sitges International Film Festival and BIFAN, among others. It was released on Shudder and became its #3 Best Reviewed Film of 2021.
Elza graduated from Emerson College (Boston) and attended the Canadian Film Center’s Director’s Lab. Her first feature, Graveyard Alive – A zombie nurse in love played in over 20 international film festivals including Fantasia, Fantasporto and Sitges. Her second feature film, Go in the Wilderness, premiered at the Festival du Nouveau Cinema, played in various international film festivals, and is being distributed on various platforms, including itunes.
Elza has several film and television projects in development including The Great Canada Day Massacre. She has obtained development financing from Telefilm, SODEC and CALQ, been selected to the Frontières Co-Production Market, the Torino SeriesLab, and pitched at the Series Mania Co-Production Forum for her various projects.
Elza received the inaugural Director’s Guild of Canada Jean-Marc Valley Bursary to attend the Banff Media Festival, has attended the TIFF Talent Lab, the Berlinale Talent Campus, the Telluride Student Symposium and has been a panelist for Fantasia, Film Fatales, WIFT, the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma, and From our Dark Side.
