Mari Kornhauser

Mari Kornhauser has written on assignment for various studios and producers. She wrote and co-produced two independent features, ZANDALEE, starring Nicolas Cage, and THE LAST RIDE, starring Mickey Rourke. In 2000, she made her directorial debut with the independent feature HOUSEBOUND (aka KITCHEN PRIVILEGES), starring Peter Sarsgaard, which she also wrote. The film premiered at SXSW to critical acclaim and played festivals worldwide, winning awards. The rights were sold to Overseas Film Group/First Look Media but released in North America by Xenon Pictures/Lion’s Gate Pictures. Like everyone touched by Hurricane Katrina, her life was transformed in 2005 and she shot her first non fiction videography, focusing on the reconstruction of New Orleans. This footage has been licensed for usage in other documentaries. In 2011, she moved into television when A&E picked up her reality pilot. From 2011-2013, she wrote for the HBO Peabody award winning show, TREME, created by Eric Overmyer and David Simon. Her season two episode, “Slip Away”, was a Pen Finalist. Currently, she is in development on a television series and work-shopping her first full-length play.
