Sara Nesson

Sara is an LA-based director and short-form docu-style filmmaker. She is best known for OSCAR and EMMY nominated and IDA (International Documentary Association) winning documentary film director, best known for her films “Poster Girl,” about the first female gunner in the Iraq War who returns home to battle her demons and the dysfunctional VA system, and “Women Who Score,” about women composers changing the score in Hollywood. She is also a veritè style cinematographer and run-n-gun camera operator as well as editor, shooting much of her own work which allows for deeper intimacy with her subjects. With her authentic approach and artistic sensibility, Sara thrives on storytelling to not just see and listen but to think and feel. She has helmed a range of commercial projects and created content for iconic names such as Cirque de Soleil, Bonnaroo Music Festival, The Muse, and Deloitte. She is on the roster of directors at HeLo. Mentored by her documentary filmmaker, adventure-seeking dad, a filming expedition left them stranded on a Siberian peninsula after a boat gone awry. That life-altering experience along with working as a sea kayaking guide in Alaska taught her a thing or two about powering through any challenge. She can probably still pull off an Eskimo Roll.
