Velvet Andrews Smith is a Writer/Director/Producer based in the Pacific Northwest. Velvet broke into the tv/film industry as an assistant director. After nearly a decade of on-set experience working with some of her favorite directors, Velvet launched her directing career with the 20-minute action/drama, “Two-Eleven”. After a successful film festival run, Velvet was one of eight filmmakers selected for the Directing Workshop for Women at the American Film Institute. During this renowned fellowship, Velvet raised the funds to make her next 20 minute film, “Ripple Effect”, which she also wrote, directed and produced. This film caught the attention of executives at ABC/Disney, where Velvet was one of 18 emerging directors chosen for the ABC/Disney Directing Program. After shadowing on several tv shows on ABC and Freeform, Velvet was invited to direct her first episode of television for The Fosters on the Freeform network. Velvet is currently developing several projects which will be filmed in Washington and Oregon. Velvet’s passion is creating compelling, cinematic stories and collaborating with others to bring those stories to life.
