Fatales Forward
Film Fatales has announced the filmmakers in the second annual Fatales Forward: Trans Stories Fellowship, an innovative fellowship for emerging trans and nonbinary filmmakers working on their debut or sophomore feature films.
Five emerging transgender filmmakers have been selected to participate including: Brit Fryer (You’re Watching Queer TV), Raven Two Feathers (Indigenous Genders), Rey Tang (Back to Sixteen), Ryan Rox (Hidden Flora), and Silvia Del Carmen Castaños (Los Papeles De Mi Mami).
Mentors include Jules Rosskam (Paternal Rites), Olivia Peace (Tahara), Sam Feder (Disclosure), Set Hernadez (Unseen), and Zackary Drucker (The Stroll). Guest speakers include Cary Cronewett (Maggots and Men), D. Smith (Kokomo City), Fawzia Mirza (The Queen of My Dreams), Pavli Serenetsky (Firstness), Samantha Curley (Framing Agnes) and more. This year’s program is facilitated by cultural worker and actress Nava Mau (Genera+ion), with support from the BFFoundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.
Fellows are invited to participate in an Online Intensive, followed by three months of peer-to-peer workshops and one-on-one mentorship with established trans feature filmmakers. We use the term “trans” in its most inclusive sense to encompass transgender, genderqueer, Indigenous Two-Spirit, non-binary and anyone whose gender identity is non-conforming.
