Barbara Cunha

Barbara Cunha is a Brazilian filmmaker and screenwriter. She studied cinema under Béla Tárr and Apichatpong Weerasethakul, is a member of the Paradiso Talents network and the +Mulheres Leadership in Brazilian Audiovisual, and serves as the Director of the API – Association of Independent Audiovisual Producers of Brazil. Barbara is a founding partner of 99 Produções/PE (2007), and Coentro Produções/SP (2021).


She frequently participates in international film festivals and labs such as the Torino Film Lab, Marché du Film, Ventana Sur, Doc Lisboa, Berlinale Co-Production Market, and the Audiovisual Market of Ideas at the São Paulo International Film Festival. Additionally, she has experience in advertising, music videos, and various other audiovisual formats. She also serves as a reviewer for funding calls, such as RioFilme, and as a jury member for festivals like Short Kinoforum. She acts as a script consultant for initiatives like Paradiso Multipliies at MATAPI, Brasil Cine Mundi, and Stories that Travel, among others. She teaches audiovisual courses such as "Anatomy of a Series," as well as directing and production workshop for SPCINE.


Barbara directed the feature documentary *Prison Flowers* (2021) and six documentary series for Brazilian television. Her upcoming documentary *God is a Woman* – currently in post-production – was presented at Docs in Progress at Cannes Docs, part of the official selection of the Cannes Festival.
