Daphne Schmon
Daphne is a Greek-American Director, whose debut feature THE EYE recently won Best Director and Best Film at the Greece International Film Festival. Daphne began her career in documentaries with CHILDREN OF THE WIND winning 8 international awards including ‘Best Emerging Filmmaker’ and ‘Best Documentary’ at X-Dance. Rey Cuerdo, VP at Sony Pictures Worldwide, said of the film: “Deeply moving… an exhilarating journey.” Her next documentary DOWN TO EARTH was broadcast on CNN Latin America. Daphne’s first narrative short ALL OF ME followed a genderqueer musician, playing at over 30 festivals including Oscar-qualifying Palm Springs International. The film received 6 nominations and 3 awards including Best Director at the London Independent Film Awards. Daphne’s latest short TINY VESSELS won Best Film at Berlin Lift-Off. She often collaborates with Positive East charity in London, filming their HIV Voices theatrical show. Daphne is Founder of ‘Breaking Through The Lens’ non-profit initiative helping directors of marginalized gender secure finance for their feature film, with key events at Cannes, Venice and Toronto Film Festivals.
