Monica Taboada-Tapia

Mónica Taboada-Tapia studied Anthropology as well as Filmmaking and TV. Her film projects have been showcased in markets and labs such as TorinoFilmLab, Tribeca Film Institute Network, DocsBarcelona, DocMontevideo Pitch, The NYT Op-Docs, Pulitzer Center, and Tribeca Film Institute International Pitch. She directed the short films Fidel (2012), Two-Spirit (2021), and Red Flag (2023), all of which were selected for renowned film festivals including IDFA, Outfest, BFI Flare, New Filmmakers LA, FICCI, Bogoshorts, and Palm Springs, winning various awards. Monica was nominated for the 2022 Macondo Awards by the Colombian Academy and the 2022 IDA Awards from the International Documentary Association for Two-Spirit, which was distributed by The New Yorker. Additionally, she produced the documentary Causas Elevadas (2021) and served as showrunner for the series El Placer de Escaparse del Mundo (2021). Her debut feature, Alma del Desierto (2024), won the Queer Lion Award at the 81st Venice Film Festival, Giornate degli Autori.
