Rakel Aguirre

Rakel Aguirre (Pamplona / Iruñea, 1981) is a journalist and independent filmmaker. She graduated in Journalism at the University of the Basque Country and completed her visual arts training with a diploma in Documentary Filmmaking at the International Film and Television School of San Antonio de los Baños (EICTV) in Cuba. She has directed several shortfilms, and in 2022 she directed her first feature-length documentary, Sew to Say, which won the award for Best International Documentary Feature Film at Ecozine Film Festival 2023, Best Documentary on Gender and Equality at OFFCINEDOC 2023 and the award for Best Documentary at the Utopia Film Festival 2023, along with other mentions and awards. Interested in the collective memory and making the invisible visible, she is currently working on the development of her second feature-length documentary film.
