Zoey Martinson
Zoey Martinson is a comedy and genre writer/ director. In theater, she’s written and directed Off-Broadway and internationally. Her feature film The Fisherman will premiere at the Venice Biennale Film Festival August 2024. For TV, she wrote and directed “Incomplete" on Hulu's Bite Size Halloween, which was nominated for an NAACP Image Award 2023. Martinson is one of the ten Female directing finalists featured on Issa Rae’s Project Greenlight on Max. She wrote and directed the award-winning short film The Fisherman on HBO Max. She was commissioned by Tribeca Studios to create the short Cupids for their 8:46 Films premiering at Tribeca Film Festival, BET, and CBS. It was nominated for an NAACP Image Award in 2022. Martinson directed episodes 1-6 of A24’s Ziwe on Showtime S2, and “Uthandiwe” for South Africa’s DSTVMzansi Magic. Martinson is a director for ABC/ Disney Discovers Talent and the writer on season 2 of Betty on HBO Max. Her award-winning short film La Oposición played at Casa Mexico Program SXSW. Martinson is in 2023 Warner Bros. Discovery Director Class. She was an artistic fellow for Lincoln Center Institute, a recipient of the Rauschenberg Artist as Activist Fellowship, and a recipient of the DGF Fellow and Virginia B. Toulmin Women Playwright Commission Award. Her work has won Diversity at Cannes 2020, been nominated for Amnesty International Freedom of Expression Award, an African Movie Academy Award, and has been published in five anthologies.
