Film Fatales hosted an in-person cocktail gathering at the Museum of the Moving Image in New York to prepare for some good vibes as we head into summer. This year we extended an invitation to our wider community of filmmakers, film lovers, and partner filmmaker groups, as we bolstered each other and deepened our connections. Our spring time theme was Let’s Get Loud! From stripes to florals to funky designs – everyone came rocking their favorite patterns or color combos.
Joined by members of A-Doc, AWFC, AWD, Black Film Space, BGDM, DPA, ICF+C, Moonshot Initiative, NYWIFT, WIP, and WMM, with support from ShotDeck and Zeiss, this in person mixer was for everyone interested in amplifying filmmakers of all marginalized genders. See you next time!
A-Doc is a national network that works to increase the visibility and support of Asian Americans in the documentary field. AWD is a non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of women and gender non-binary directors working in the entertainment industry.
Through advocacy, support, and education, the Alliance for Women Film Composers aims to increase the visibility of women composers active in media scoring. The AWFC advocates for the inclusion of women composers within industry events; supports filmmakers, game developers and studios in their inclusion of women composers; and educates, mentors and inspires emerging women composers.
Black Film Space is a 501(c) 3 non profit organization dedicated to improving the careers of Black filmmakers. Our mission is to provide education, community building experiences and pipeline programs in the film industry for people of African descent. We facilitate a variety of affordable programs and events including grants, mentorship opportunities, film screenings, panel discussions, networking mixers, access to our jobs board and professional development workshops.
Brown Girls Doc Mafia (BGDM)’s mission is to nurture, amplify, and invest in the creative capacity and professional success of BIPOC* women and nonbinary people working in the documentary industry.
The Documentary Producers Alliance‘s mission is to amplify the voice of documentary producers worldwide by educating the industry about the essential role that producers play from development through financing, production, and distribution; and by setting standards for inclusive, sustainable, and equitable documentary filmmaking practices based on research, collective experience, and input from industry stakeholders.
The International Community of Female⁺ Cinematographers (ICF⁺C) is a collective of professional female cinematographers from around the US and the world, who provide each other with community support and industry advocacy.
New York Women in Film & Television (NYWIFT) works in collaboration with the moving image industry and supports women at every stage of their careers. NYWIFT energizes filmmakers by illuminating their achievements, presenting training and professional development programs, awarding scholarships and grants, and providing access to a supportive community of peers.
Women Independent Producers was founded in 2016 as a collective to foster collaboration, mentorship, and shared resources among women producers, WIP provides a platform for networking, skill-building, self-care and advocacy. Members are primarily independent producers, spanning both emerging and seasoned professionals, and who work on a wide range of media projects, from feature films to documentaries and digital content. WIP’s mission centers on amplifying women’s voices in the industry and creating opportunities for female-led projects to thrive.
Established in 1972 to address the under and misrepresentation of women in media both behind and in front of the camera, Women Make Movies is a non-profit media arts organization dedicated to seeding the industry with tomorrow’s leaders and advancing gender and racial equity in the documentary film industry. WMM does this by facilitating the production, promotion, distribution, and exhibition of independent films and media by and about women through internationally recognized Distribution Services and a Production Assistance Program.
