Bio

Biliana Grozdanova is a Bulgarian-born, Brooklyn-based documentary filmmaker. With a music-driven international trajectory spanning the last 10 years, her work has explored the Celtic traditions of Northern Spain, the underground metal scene of Chicago, and the historic collection of NASA's Golden Record. In 2012, Biliana co-founded El Jinete Films alongside her sister Marina and their feature films include Ortigueira: Echoes At Land’s End (2013), The Last Kamikazis of Heavy Metal (2015), and The Golden Record: a documentary experience (work in progress). In 2019, Biliana received support from the Tribeca Film Institute's If/Then Documentary Shorts Program to co-direct A Fine Girl, which is now circulating film festivals. In addition to direction, Biliana has pursued a professional career in production, most notably working as production manager on Roberto Minervini's What You Gonna Do When The World's On Fire (Official Selection 2018 Venice Film Festival), associate producer on Carlos Corral's Dirty Feathers (2021 Berlin International Film Festival), and production manager at Wavelength Studios. Currently, she is in development for her first narrative feature, After The Rain.
