Synopsis
COLD SPOONS is a coming-of-age film about Maya Mari, a struggling filmmaker who is paralyzed by self-doubt after a failed artistic endeavor and rough breakup.
Maya hopes to salvage her career after connecting with a high-powered producer who’s interested in developing a romantic comedy with her. Although her current heartbreak makes it impossible to get excited about a romcom, Maya is eager to impress the producer and move past her quarter-life crisis.
Maya sneaks away to her ex’s unoccupied lake house, where she hopes the idyllic isolation will help her zen out and write, but the house is eerie, and she faces constant distractions. Maya wanders outside in the middle of the night and encounters a dreamy guy who works on the property; he seems to appear in the evenings whenever she feels lonely.
At the local movie theatre Maya meets headstrong high schooler Mallory Tate, who wants Maya’s help with a film project. Maya also meets Vivian Vincent, a self-conscious, aging movie star who hires Maya to help get her home and affairs in order.
Maya is inspired by her new friendships, but soon a surprise visitor shows up and throws a wrench in her work… leading her to complete a script that is distinctly not a romcom.
As summer comes to an end, Maya copes with grief, altered relationships and personal conflict without losing her ambition. She understands that things not going according to plan doesn’t equate failure and learns to embrace her journey.
