During the ferry crossing from Morocco to Spain, three story lines intertwine, all connected with the fear of loss. The characters strive to connect to their loved ones, however their helplessness leaves room for the inevitable.

Synopsis

During the crossing of the ferry from Morocco to Spain, three storylines intertwine in real time. Iris, Walter and their two sons take the boat from Morocco to Spain. Things are fragile but they find each other in a moment of passion, after which they realise their son is missing. Captain Bukhim hides his pregnant daughter in his cabin. He can't live with the shame of a bastard grandchild and takes her to Spain. But she has other plans. Luis and Raul, two Spanish coastguards find a body in the harbour; one too many for Raul. The characters all try to cross to ‘the other’ but fate changes the tide.

Bio

Jacqueline van Vugt is a Writer, Director and DOP. She develops her own films. In her work she focusses on the drama that unfolds between her main-characters, set in a broader political context, in a poetic narration. Van Vugt was raised in West Africa in Mali and Chad. She studied architecture at TU Delft. In 1995 Jacqueline graduated as a Director of Photoghy at the Dutch Film and Television Academy with the award-winning documentary Snow White, directed by Jelka Anhalt. In 1998 the Amsterdam Art Fund awarded Jacqueline for Talent of the Year. In 2014 she won a Fipresci Award with her documentary Borders at Krakow. In 2021 her documentary Up to G-Cup was awarded with the Dutch Film Critics Award, KNF.
