Synopsis

Elvis sparked and set the tone for what we now call tribute artists. For decades, performers have dedicated their lives to preserving musical icons whose voices continue to resonate long after their passing. Among them is Robbie Howard, whose portrayal of Frank Sinatra introduces new generations to timeless songs. Across the globe, Beatles and Bee Gees tribute bands have audiences singing, dancing and reliving another era.

Tribute artists are in more demand today than ever before, even those portraying living artists. Sharon Owens (Barbra Streisand), Rob Caudill (Rod Stewart), and Karen Hester (Dolly Parton) continue to fill theaters as audiences seek connection, nostalgia and shared experiences..

Inside theaters, strangers become a community. Fans sing together, dance together and relive precious moments from their lives through music. As these performances unfold, neuroscientist Dr. Kiminobu Sugaya begins measuring what may be happening beyond the emotional experience. Audience members attending tribute artist performances participate in studies using a saliva test developed by Dr. Sugaya to measure changes in brain activity before and after the show.

As the results emerge, a larger conversation begins… Tribute artists are preserving more than music as they help those with cognitive decline. They are creating spaces where memory, community and human connection continue to thrive. Yet another question remains, as generations shift and technology advances, what becomes of this world? Tribute artists for Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, and Sabrina Carpenter are already beginning to emerge, while AI-generated performances and hologram shows continue to advance. Will future generations continue to seek out live, human performance, or will technology reshape the concert experience?

ECHOES OF LEGENDS explores our enduring relationship with music and the vital role it plays in keeping us connected to one another through live performances, interviews, backstage moments, conversations with artists and fans and scientific research.
