Exploring Korea's Political Landscape Through Family History and Social Movement Reflections
K-FAMILY AFFAIRS delves into Korea's political evolution through the lens of Arum's parents, pivotal figures in the 386 generation that spearheaded democratization. Arum grapples with her parents' ideals as her father, a public servant, becomes entangled in the aftermath of the Sewol ferry disaster. This personal crisis prompts Arum to scrutinize the democracy crafted by her parents' generation, exploring Korea's socio-political landscape through milestones like the #MeToo movement and the 2022 election. Her journey reflects on generational legacies and their impact on Korea's ongoing quest for social justice and political reform.
Arum Nam, a documentary director from Seoul, South Korea, holds a Master's degree in Documentary Filmmaking from the Korea National University of Arts. She directed a short documentary "Pink Femi," which tells the story of a feminist mother, and co-directed “Teleporting” with Japanese directors during the pandemic. “K-family affairs” is her first feature documentary.
