KLEZMERETTE is a documentary about a Yiddish songstress recording her first album and takes a journey through the heart and soul of a culture grappling with its past, present, and future. The film delves into the complex landscape of Jewish identity in the 21st century, exploring the challenges of preserving a fading language, the struggle for recognition in the arts, and the enduring power of music and storytelling to connect generations and bridge cultural divides.
Stacey Maltin is a writer-director whose upbringing in San Francisco shaped her Bohemian outlook on the world but calls Brooklyn, New York home. A graduate from NYU Tisch School of the Arts, Maltin has a unique perspective in storytelling, that is both authentic and entertaining. She writes dynamic characters who live in the moral grey area. You love them, root for them, are probably attracted to them, but they make choices that will strain that love. Maltin's feature drama LANDING UP stars Ben Rappaport and can be streamed on Amazon. The film garnered attention from both the industry and the press, including interviews with People magazine and “CNN.”Maltin's feature directorial debut, TRIPLE THREAT, a musical RomCom, is currently on the festival circuit. Her feature drama THE OTHER SIDE was selected by The Black List as a “Top 10 Finalist in the Hasty Pudding Fellowship” and was produced by Franklin Leonard as a radio play distributed on EarWolf starring Darren Criss.
