Set in Chester, a small town outside of Philadelphia, LALA, follows a single teen mom, Lala, and her 5-year-old son, Bunch, throughout the Autumn. Her parents, Rick and Diddy, are divorced. Lala lives with Rick who’s an alcoholic. Despite the hardships, Lala is a caring and attentive mother.
Lala’s former classmate, Fox, visits town on his Autumn break from college. Lala was his high school crush; they become reacquainted and form an instant connection. He makes her question her choices and helps reignite her dreams that went by the wayside to motherhood.
Rick’s passing and Lala’s financial struggles make her leave Bunch with Diddy and follow Fox to Philadelphia only to discover that she made a huge mistake. Her family is where she belongs. Lala returns home and buries Rick. She and Diddy are now closer than ever. Lala and Bunch start fresh.
Mariya Somova is a Ukrainian political refugee who left home at the age of 16 to pursue a career in filmmaking. She began by dreaming up concepts and filming them on her small home camera. Eventually, she relocated to New York in order to gain industry exposure and opportunity in the field. She developed by working different industry-related jobs, during which she learned every aspect on set. Each experience along her path ultimately informed her most personal film yet, I Want to Live on Mars. Together with Joe Cyrus she co-founded and owns AuraPyre Productions, focusing on independent filmmaking and music production.
