The two turn out to be reading the same bird book, and to share a love of birds. While the friendship grows, Paloma's worried mother Lindsay initially tries to divert Paloma from Martin, but she herself ends up becoming friends with him and learning about his tragic past. It also turns out Paloma holds the key to Martin's dearest wish, and she, Martin and Lindsay end up coming through for each other in ways none had expected.
