Program Synopsis
RESERVATION REDEMPTION tells the powerful story of Chief Marchand Rice, a man who journeyed from a life sentence for murder to becoming a voice of hope, healing, and transformation. Raised on the Yakama Reservation, Chief’s early life was marked by struggle, loss, and a cycle of self-destruction that ultimately led to his incarceration—and a trial where he came within one juror of receiving the death penalty.
While serving his sentence, Chief experienced a profound turning point after meeting Kalispel tribal elder Francis Cullooyah, who asked him a simple yet life-altering question: “Who do you want to be when you grow up?” This moment ignited a deep reconnection to his culture, spirituality, and identity. Through traditional teachings and self-reflection, Chief began the difficult work of accountability and personal transformation.
Inside prison, he forged meaningful relationships with fellow inmates and advocates, becoming a source of
strength and guidance for others navigating similar paths. His journey of redemption extended beyond himself—impacting people like Aaron Faletogo, a former prisoner who now dedicates his life to mentoring at-risk youth.
At its core, Reservation Redemption is a story of resilience, cultural reclamation, and the enduring possibility of change, illuminating how identity, community, and spiritual grounding can transform even the most unlikely lives.
