SHIRIN follows the titular character Shirin, an Iranian-American woman in her late sixties, who is attempting to navigate life as a single woman after her husband, Behrooz, ends their forty-five year marriage. The story begins six months after the divorce is finalized as Shirin and her adult daughters, Nooshin and Nika, are grappling with their new and unexpected family dynamic, which is soon further complicated by Behrooz’s announcement that he plans to remarry. It is through Shirin’s handling of these circumstances that the story explores the particular sacrifice of matriarchs - how they give without expectation, nurturing and uplifting everyone in their orbit while carrying the weight of their own hardships with exquisite grace and dignity.
