A year after her boyfriend dies from gun violence, a young woman prepares to graduate high school as she navigates an uncertain future alongside a community that is searching for ways to heal.
Genevieve is getting ready to graduate high school a year after her boyfriend, Tyler, dies from gun violence. As she struggles to push herself forward, a connection with Tyler's best friend, Ben, pulls her back to reality, but their relationship takes a turn as their grief begins to resurface. Meanwhile, Tyler's father, John, finds himself losing composure as his son's class moves past the tragic event that took his son’s life. As the three of them navigate how to come to terms with their loss, they find hope in each other and the community that surrounds them.
Hannah Peterson is a writer and director. Filmmaker Magazine named her one of the “25 New Faces of Independent Film.” Her award-winning short films, including CHAMP and EAST OF THE RIVER, have screened at Sundance Film Festival, MoMA, REDCAT, Tribeca Film Festival, Slamdance Film Festival, and more. Her feature film THE GRADUATES was awarded Best Cinematography at the Tribeca Film Festival.Her sophomore feature, VIA NEGATIVA, will have its world premiere in 2026. She is currently in development on her third feature, produced by Putnam Pictures. She holds an MFA in Film Directing from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) and a BA in Screen Studies from The New School. Prior to directing, Hannah mentored under Sean Baker and Chloé Zhao, working on the sets of THE FLORIDA PROJECT and NOMADLAND.
