The Remembering

Directed by S.E. King

A dissident alien recruits three women with only one week to convince Earth that aliens are here to save us, not murder us. Easy enough, if the worst people on the planet didn't already control everything the trio needs to tell the world the truth.

Bio

S.E. King is a writer and director with roots in Chicago comedy, now based in Los Angeles. S.E. looks to elevate LGBTQ+ voices, women, and other overlooked perspectives across documentary, narrative, and branded spaces.

S.E.'s storytelling centers underrepresented protagonists navigating a world not built for them. Subverting expectations to spotlight observational truths, King explores the assumptions surrounding marginalized communities and the many facets of the human condition. Comedic empathy for the underdogs. Satirical honesty for those in power.

That sensibility runs across all S.E.'s work. King's dramedy scripts centering these voices have placed as a Finalist, Top 8, Semifinalist, and Second Rounder at Austin Film Festival, the Tony Cox Screenplay Competition at Nantucket, HollyShorts, Cinequest, ScreenCraft, and more. King's debut documentary feature, Our Dad, Danielle, was independently produced with support from The John Steven Kellett Foundation and crowdfunding. It won the Best Documentary Jury Award at Manchester Film Festival, the LGBTQ+ Voices Jury Award and Audience Award at Portland Film Festival, and the Audience Award at Vail Film Festival.

King is currently in production on Lick Me: The Cherry Vanilla Story, a feature documentary about an unsung counterculture revolutionary — glam-punk pioneer, Warhol collaborator, Bowie's publicist, and at 82, still as punk as ever. Selected for Gotham Week Project Market 2025.
