Thriv(h)er is an uplifting documentary that follows young women who have overcome breast cancer and want to grow their families. The film intimately follows these thrivers at different stages of their lives: attempting to navigate fertility, pregnancy, safe delivery, and postpartum after cancer treatment. The film reveals how cancer survivors juggle mental and physical health–from the ability to get pregnant to breastfeeding. The documentary explores changes being made to the healthcare system to accommodate younger women who have survived cancer and are currently experiencing it. Through the course of the film Thriv(h)er champions these women's resilience, providing audiences with crucial knowledge, inspiration, and hope.
Melody C. Miller is an Emmy-winning filmmaker and cinematographer known for impactful storytelling in socially relevant documentaries. Her acclaimed films, California’s Forgotten Children and ruth weiss, the beat goddess, have inspired audiences globally, with the latter earning an Emmy for Best Historical and Cultural Documentary. Currently, she is directing Thriv(h)er, her third feature, exploring the complex journey of young cancer survivors navigating motherhood. A UCLA Film School graduate, Melody has also directed branded content for Samsung and worked as director of photography for top media outlets, including HBO MAX, PBS, and ESPN. Her work reflects a commitment to sparking important conversations and positive change.
