OUT LOUD chronicles the first season of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles — the largest group of transgender and gender non-conforming people anywhere in the world who come together regularly to sing.
Gail Willumsen is an Emmy and Peabody award-winning writer, director, producer of documentaries and non-fiction programs for PBS, cable, and network broadcast. Her work explores the kaleidoscope of human experience and celebrates individuals who are trying to make the world a better place. She has tracked down stories all over the world, filming wildlife conservationists,medical researchers and astrophysicists, as well as community health workers, educators and transgender rights activists. “My goal is to champion the heroes who increase our knowledge and understanding of the world --and of each other.” Gail considers herself a “science geek,” and is grateful for the privilege to have interviewed some of the great minds of our day. Her most recent documentary (which she directed and photographed, and co-produced with her business partner Jill Shinefield), OUT LOUD chronicles the first season of the Trans Chorus of Los Angeles — the largest group of transgender and gender non-conforming people anywhere in the world who regularly sing together. The film has been an official selection at more than 20 festivals in the 2020-2021 season; distribution is pending.
