Raspberry Magic
RASPBERRY MAGIC,
RASPBERRY MAGIC, Raspberry Magic is a coming-of-age story about the delicate nature of family relationships and the complex
web of emotions that tie us together. At the center is Monica Shah, a thoughtful and determined 11-year-
old who believes she can solve any problem--even her parents' crumbling relationship.
Her father, a self-absorped entrepreneur, wants so desperately to become a successful business man, that
he often neglects his family. And her mother is so worn out from trying to manage the family and publish
her book that she's lost complete faith in herself and her husband. When things finally come to a boil and
her father leaves the family, and her mother falls into a depressive slump, Monica takes charge, firmly
believing that if she wins the science fair, everything will be okay.
Her experiment uses touch therapy to help a select group of raspberries grow in the forest. She asks: Can
you nurture love or is it inherently only a natural phenomenon? She grapples with this question throughout
the film, conducting her experiment with precision and diligence, but getting no results. Only when she
finally lets go of the scientific method and explores her own sense of compassion for the plants, does she
see results.
