A comedic retelling of Shakespeare's "Romeo and Juliet," told from the point of view of Romeo's jilted ex, Rosaline, the woman Romeo first claims to love before he falls for Juliet. Rosaline is a 2022 American romantic comedy film directed by Karen Maine, written by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber, and starring Kaitlyn Dever, Isabela Merced, Kyle Allen, Sean Teale, Christopher McDonald, Minnie Driver, and Bradley Whitford. It is based on the 2012 young adult novel When You Were Mine by Rebecca Serle, which in turn was inspired by William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
Karen Maine wrote and directed the feature film Yes, God, Yes, which had its world premiere at the 2019 SXSW film festival and won a Special Jury Recognition Award for Best Ensemble. Yes, God, Yes the short film (2017) premiered as a Vimeo Staff Pick, received 2.9 million views, and was covered widely in the press, with the Guardian calling it "the film nailing teenage sexuality" . It also won “Best Short” at the St. Louis Film Festival. Karen also co­-wrote Obvious Child (2014), which premiered at Sundance and was distributed by A24. She lives in Brooklyn.
