THE MESSENGER is an artful investigation into the causes of songbird mass depletion and the compassionate people who are working to turn the tide. The film takes viewers on a visually stunning journey revealing how the problems facing birds also pose daunting implications for our planet and ourselves.
Born and raised in Toronto Canada, Su Rynard is best known for her diverse range of film and media art works. Often inspired by science, ecology, and the human relationship to the natural world, she most recently directed the documentary MOSQUITO (2017) produced for the Discovery Network and narrated by Oscar® nominated Jeremy Renner. MOSQUITO premiered at AFI Docs and was broadcast in over 220 countries and territories around the globe. Rynard’s documentary film THE MESSENGER (2015) received nine awards, notably a Top Ten Audience Choice Award at Hot Docs and the Buffon Prize from the Pariscience International Film Festival. Her dramatic fiction film KARDIA (2006) was awarded the prestigious Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize at the Hamptons Film Festival. Her films have screened in festivals around the world including the Toronto Intl Film Festival and the Rotterdam International Film Festival. Rynard has also directed a number of series television projects, including MAYDAY/AIR CRASH INVESTIGATION for National Geographic & Discovery. Su Rynard is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and was a Director Resident at the Canadian Film Centre. Her work has been exhibited at the MOMA in New York and the National Gallery of Canada, and can be seen at Paul Petro Contemporary Art in Toronto.
