Writing With Direction

Private Mixer for Directors + Screenwriters

Fri. April 10th 1pm-2:30pm PT / 4pm-5:30pm ET

Eager to meet creative collaborators? Excited to share details about your latest passion project? Join this private online networking mixer for feature film directors and screenwriters of all marginalized genders. We will begin with a group “getting to know you” exercise facilitated by representatives from Film Fatales, CineStory, Inspired Screenwriters, Off The Page, The Athena List, and The Writers Lab before dividing up into smaller discussion circles for meaningful conversations based on a series of guided prompts.

This private mixer will be a fully interactive session and will not be recorded to create a safe space for active participation. Capacity is extremely limited. Plan to show up with cameras on as fully as if we were together in person.

Film Fatales members can log in to RSVP for their member ticket.

Abigail Bloom and Laura Huie are the VPs of Community & Marketing for Off The Page, an inclusive community for female-identifying and non-binary screenwriters. They are a Los Angeles-based writer/director duo who’ve been inseparable since they were cast as conjoined twins in a hilariously awful high school play. Over a decade later, their bond as best friends fuels their high-concept, female-led projects brimming with irreverent humor and rooted in female friendship.

Colette Sartor’s linked short story collection ONCE REMOVED won the Flannery O’Connor Award for Short Fiction, the National Indie Excellence Juror’s Choice Award, and the National Indie Excellence Short Stories Award, among other awards. WIST also ran script-development labs in NY and LA for the Athena Film Festival 2016-2020. Elizabeth previously served as Head of Development at Tangerine Entertainment, an independent production company that produces films directed by women, and has mentored at Stowe Story Labs. A former theater and film critic and graduate of Princeton and the Yale School of Drama, she lives in New York with her family.

Writer/Director Jen Harrington’s (DGA/WGA) most recent scripts, HELL’S BELLES (Hollywood Reporter), and THE END OF LIZ AS WE KNOW IT (Hollywood Reporter), were sold to Amazon Studios and Sony Pictures, respectively, with Jake Kasdan and Melvin Mar attached to produce.  Previously, she wrote and directed the horror feature SHOOK, acquired by the streamer Shudder and reviewed by the Wall Street Journal as a “guilty pleasure.”  Her first feature, HOUSEKEEPING, was released by Lionsgate and After Dark Films.  In the documentary world, she was co-executive producer and a director for the doc-series DEAR… for Apple TV+(Variety) and RJ Cutler and has edited several award-winning documentary features and countless television shows.

She serves as Board President and Creative Director of Mentorship of the CineStory Foundation, a nonprofit mentoring organization for emerging screenwriters. Her superpowers include sarcasm and metaphorical juggling.

Nitza Wilon co-founded The Writers Lab with Elizabeth Kaiden in 2015 and is a founding partner of Women in the Script Trade (WIST) with Elizabeth. WIST ran the script-development labs for the Athena Film Festival (NY and LA) and co-produces The Writers Lab with NYWIFT, and provides individual support for exceptional women screenwriters. Community Partners

Founded in 1995, the CineStory Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to mentoring emerging film and television writers through retreats, fellowships, and residencies. These programs serve talented writers with strong craft who are entering or early in their industry careers. CineStory hosts two annual retreats—one for feature writers and one for TV writers—as well as a residency. The organization focuses on strengthening storytelling craft and creates a supportive environment where writers can push creative boundaries, take risks, and deepen their work within a collaborative community of peers and mentors. Its programs emphasize mentorship, feedback, and sustained creative growth for writers.

Inspired Screenwriters is a creative community and educational platform dedicated to supporting screenwriters at every stage of their careers. Through workshops, mentorship, industry conversations, and collaborative programs, the organization helps writers develop their craft while building meaningful connections within the film and television industry.

Off The Page is an inclusive and encouraging community for female-identifying and non-binary screenwriters to learn, collaborate, and build lasting relationships in the entertainment industry. Our organization offers educational panels, workshops, and networking events to help our members grow creatively, professionally, and personally.

The Writers Lab, the only program of its kind in the world, is dedicated to developing narrative scripted content by diverse women 40+ with the support of industry veterans. At our labs, writers focus on script development, working intensively on their features and pilots with established film professionals. We seek to amplify the voices of diverse women over 40 in world cinema, offering mentorship, advocacy and exposure.

The Athena List, created by the Athena Film Festival, highlights exceptional unproduced screenplays that feature strong and complex women leaders. Each year the list recognizes compelling scripts that challenge stereotypes and expand the representation of women in film. By celebrating and promoting these stories, The Athena List helps connect writers with industry professionals and advances projects that place women at the center of powerful narratives.
