Synopsis
Amber is stuck at home for the summer, living with her parents and nothing to do. She goes clubbing with her college friends Grace and some others, who all have fancy internships or day jobs. At the club, dancing, Amber spots a man in the crowd, Charlie, and she has to leave. Flashbacks to some night. It's unclear, but it seems bad. The next day, Amber's mom has a book club meeting at the apartment. Amber scrolls through social media and can't stop thinking of Charlie. She googles travel options. She finds the site: WWOOF, which provides room and board at organic farms in exchange for labor. Amber starts messaging a farm. Time passes. She packs for Italy. She keeps throwing up whenever she checks her phone or remembers Charlie. She flies to Italy. At the farm, Amber meets the whole family: Marco, Alessandra's husband, and Luca, their son-- along with Natalia, the daughter of their family friend. The vibes are strong, but it seems Natalia and Luca may be shmanging. Amber works on the farm, but still can't keep food down. Natalia and Luca invite Amber to a party. Amber hooks up with this dude while Luca and Natalia fuck, but they're all in the same room and it feels like Amber and Natalia are sending each other signals? Grace sends Amber a tv show recommendation that may help her figure out her illness. Luca and the fam go to lunch at a friend's place. Amber and Natalia are invited, but they both choose to stay behind and have some time together. Marco's sister gets sick and the family has to leave. Natalia and Amber look after the house. Their romance buds, but Amber's not doing any better. Natalia tells Amber about her grandparents' profession (butchering) and her special ability (gaining access to the memories of the animals she consumes). Amber says, "if I die, will you cure me?" One day, Amber passes out. Natalia leaves to get help. Amber wakes up, all alone. Abandoned. She spirals. Hard. She eats and drinks everything she can, starved. She texts Charlie, and everyone, overdosing on all of it. She passes out, then dies choking on her own vomit. Natalia comes back with help, but quickly sends the man away, not ready for a coroner to take Amber away. She falls asleep cradling Amber's dead body. In her dreams, Amber speaks to her, and Natalia knows what she's being asked to do. She cures Amber and eats her, overwhelmed by her memories. She gets a call on Amber's phone from Charlie. She answers. He mistakes her for Amber at first. She returns to New York on Amber's flight. She tries to go home -- to Amber's home. Then stops herself. She goes to visit Grace, who is so relieved Amber's home, until she sees Natalia. Natalia nearly blacks out on memories. She winds up in a restaurant, slices off a finger and takes a bite. She can be with Amber now, she just has to --
