Synopsis

Liza Bonazelli is on track to be a private equity superstar!! She’s a senior analyst on the Impact Team at Klingfield, Lion & Price under the mentorship of Cheryl McDonald, Forbes’ ‘50th Most Powerful Woman in Business.’ And she’s engaged, with a huge diamond to prove it. Everything is perfect, despite the fact that if you’re not careful in this world, you might transform into a large obsidian boulder. Liza’s team at KLP has spent years negotiating the leveraged buyout of the town Deer Valley, and all they need is for Cheryl to close the deal by the end of the week. But on Thanksgiving Eve, Cheryl is nowhere to be found. With the clock ticking and a gang of radical teenagers after them, Liza and her new colleague Tony (whom she may or may not sleep with) set out on a surreal goose chase to locate Cheryl and preserve their careers. The Deer Valley deal was supposed to be a win-win, but Liza starts to wonder if “win-win” is just a marketing slogan. With blasts of comedic surrealism, GESTURES is about the relentless financialization of American lives, the clawing back of democracy, and the ensuing absurdity that seeps into our everyday actions.
