Synopsis
The Oneida tribe of Wisconsin’s creation story is a tale of twins who shaped the world—one through destruction, the other through peace. When goodness prevailed, the peaceful twin became the HOLDER OF THE SKY. The film follows three Indigenous land defenders: an Oneida farmer, an Ojibwe fisherman and a Menominee logger, each clinging fast to lifeways threatened by outside power. Together, their progression frames a picture of resistance driven by the unshakable goal: survival through sovereignty. In their battle for land, culture and ancestral memory, their stories reveal the generational cost of resistance, and the persistence of white power that still threatens Indigenous sovereignty— as prophesied in the tale of HOLDER OF THE SKY.
