Synopsis
Samuel, Malena, and Julián are siblings who have lived in an orphanage for years. Samuel acts as the father to his siblings and has a hardened look that doesn't match the sweetness of his face, which he tries so hard to hide. Malena always smiles: she’s learned to figure out what needs to be done to get what she wants. Julián seems like a quiet boy, but he's like a bomb on the verge of exploding.
Although adults may seem invisible, one day Lautaro appears as a possible adoptant. Figuring out if he can be trusted, after so many adults have hurt them, is a dangerous task.
They get to know each other during outings, and despite lingering fears, they agree to begin the pre-adoption process: a trial period of living together. But there, Samuel starts challenging Lautaro’s authority: he’s the one who’s always cared for his siblings.
Lautaro doesn’t know how to assert himself without being overbearing. And he feels that his family judges him too, seeing him as incapable of raising children on his own. His older brother and his father have always seen him as the weakest one: the one who never had children, the one who didn’t follow the family business.
Torn between loyalty to Samuel and the novelty of Lautaro, the children become unsettled: Malena grows extremely demanding, while Julián has outbursts of violence.
Amid the strangeness of this new daily life, where no one feels at ease, and under the tension of power struggles, building a bond so profound seems impossible.
But the clashes also break down some of their defenses. Lautaro begins to find his own way of being a father. And in the face of that desire and sensitivity, Samuel finally dares to feel that he, too, can be a son.
