Synopsis
The Journey of VAWA & MMIP begins in the United States, when violence against Native women hasreached unprecedented levels on tribal lands throughout the country and in Alaskan Native villages.
More than 1 in 2 have experienced sexual violence. Native women and men, organizations, and politicians share stories of how and why Native women continue to suffer the highest rate of forcible
sexual assault and have reported rates of domestic violence up to 10 times higher than the lower 48. Is the Violence against missing and murdered women shrouded by a lack of a diligent and adequate
federal response. Law enforcement as well as native women convey that many rapes during theirlifetime are committed by a non-Native man! These perpetrators exploit gaps in tribal jurisdictional
authority and target Native women as ‘safe victims.’ The stories of violence against these womenare a crisis that cannot wait to be addressed. The goal of this documentary is to address the issue as
ultimately it will affect all women!
President Biden signed into law the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) Reauthorization Act of 2022; within the trillion-dollar bipartisan legislation passed by Congress as part of the Omnibus appropriations package.

The politics, politicians, former shooters, and organizations fighting for gun control.
Dawn is the mother of a young African American male, and as such created, THEY ARE NOT ALL LOST with a deeply felt commitment to his safety and the safety of other young black men in the U.S. This film won the People’s Choice Award at the San Diego Christian Film Festival, HollyShorts Official Selection & HollyShorts Festival Documentaries Audience award @ the HollyShorts Film Festival. Along with David Massey, Dawn is currently the Producer and Writer of this awardwinning documentary (turned doc series) NOT ALL LOST, which focuses on youth of color, who overcome adversity and achieve success in life. A realitybased, celebrity driven PBS television program that’s airing in over hundreds of PBS markets. She also produced the short films, BABY GIRL, and WHEN JUSTICE ISN'T JUST being her most recent, attempts to address Justice, since: "Justice can
only exist within the coordinates of equality and is the constant and perpetual disposition to render every person his due.” When Justice Isn’t Just, is distributed by First Run Features. Dawn produced several award-winning commercials and public service announcements for TBWA/Chait/Day and Grey Advertising. She is a winner of the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame Award for her screenplay “Madness.” With an MFA in Scriptwriting Dawn's most recent screenplay LA UnCovered was a 2023 finailist in the Nicholl Fellowship.
