Synopsis

NIGHT WATCHERS follows Maya Walker, a chubby and extremely shy teenager, who is haunted by nightmares of mystical rainforests where she is chased by demonic winged creatures called Impundus and Wana, the powerful witch who controls them.

In her daily high school life, Maya begins to feel isolated when her only friend, Jen, abandons her to hang with a new clique. She also discovers that her former crush, Dante, has joined a nefarious street gang called the Night Watchers. When an attempt to impress Jen’s new friends ends in an embarrassing disaster, Maya has a panic attack and Flash! She teleports into the mystical rainforest from her dreams. To her surprise, Maya’s where deceased grandparents appear and protect her from Impundu attacks.

Maya passes out and when she awakes, she finds herself back in her bedroom. Maya’s parents, Boone and Yolanda, like always, try to convince her that what she saw wasn’t real but she suspects they are hiding something.

Wana senses Maya’s hidden powers and sends Impundus to bring her back to the magical realm. Maya is with Dante when the creatures attack but he and the Night Watchers are able to fend them off.

During the ensuing chaos, Boone and Yolanda are abducted and taken to the magical realm in her stead. Now Maya finds herself alone with no idea how to get parents back but suddenly the grandparents whom Maya thought were long dead, appear at her front door. They are there to help her find a way to get her parents back and also tell her the truth about her family, her powers, and the Night Watchers.
