A dark, dystopian thrill ride with an environmental slant, THE FIX explores identity, perception and autonomy in a frighteningly viable future. A toxic compound infects earth’s atmosphere. Pharmaceutical giant, Aethera, sells immunity to those who can afford the daily dose... most can't. When an image-conscious wild child – ELLA – takes a new designer drug at her boyfriend’s house party, she inadvertently becomes an unintended test subject. Instead of the escapist fix she was expecting, the new drug is in fact a specially designed retroviral that introduces foreign DNA into the human genome. Her self-destructive gesture triggers a shocking transformation.

As her body adapts, Ella is forced to face a self she does not recognize. Pursued by a dangerous gang and authorities in cahoots with Aethera, she hunts for a “fix” to reverse the drug’s effects, only to discover that her mutations could be the key to saving the human race.

From a covert research facility to the back alleys of the gang-regulated Cape Flats, from the dangerous aspirations of powerful corporations to the most underestimated, disenchanted young minds, THE FIX fuses the action / sci-fi elements of films like Species, Hanna, Lucy, Resident Evil and District 9 with the gritty youth culture found in films like Thirteen, La Haine and Kids.
